Dr. Rochelle Yang received her BFA in Film and Master’s in Interactive Telecommunications from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, followed by PhD in Creative Media from City University of Hong Kong. As a practicing art educator, curator, and choreographer, Dr. Yang’s work encompasses photography, painting, new media art, experimental film, and performing arts. Her artworks have been exhibited internationally at major art exhibitions, film festivals, and theatres.
Dr. Yang’s research focuses on arts, visual culture, new media, and theater studies. She is currently the Principal Investigator for two ongoing RGC grant projects:
Future Museum: Review of Immersive Technology Applications and Curatorial Strategy for Exhibitions and Art Education in Museums (2024-2025) and Shaping the Future of Film Education: Exploring the Possibilities of AI in Enhancing Creativity and Learning Outcomes (2025-2027).
Formerly, she taught in the MA program in Visual Culture and the MA in Cultural Management at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and at BNU-HKBU, where she served as the program director of the Media Art and Design Program. In her curatorial roles, she has served as Chair of the Art Gallery at the SIGGRAPH ASIA Conference in Hong Kong, curator for the International Venice Art Exhibition in Italy, the French May Art associated exhibition “AU-DELÀ,” World Dance Teleconferences with the International Dance Council, UNESCO in Athens, and the Asia Pacific Film Producer’s Forum in Hong Kong, etc. She also serves as an examiner at HKADC, director of Art Map Media.
Her artworks and choreographies have received several international awards, including four honors from the International Photography Awards (IPA) USA, two awards from the London International Creative Awards (LICC), the Prix Levallois Photography Award, Honorary Doctorate in Arts from CISAC in France, the Chinese Youth Award for Excellence in New York, the Golden Pin Design Award in Taiwan, the Championships from the Asia Pacific Dance Awards, the World Dance Talent Award in Thailand, and the Chinese Arts Global Award in Beijing.
