Beyond the Invisible – Invisible Cities and the Art of Unveiling Imagination

In this exhibition, we invite you to explore the vibrant intersections of literature, art, and design as interpreted by our talented students. Inspired by Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, each assignment has challenged students to delve into the depths of imagination and abstraction, transforming literary narratives into tangible forms. From conceptual urban plans to immersive garden spaces and innovative wearable art, this exhibition showcases a journey through the creative process. Each piece reflects not only the essence of the city it represents but also the students’ unique interpretations and personal connections to the text. The first assignment focuses on the conceptual layout of fictional cities, encouraging students to engage with Calvino’s prose and translate it into abstract diagrams and spatial designs. The second assignment builds on this foundation, inviting students to envision gardens that embody the spirit of these cities. The final assignment culminates in the creation of wearable art—objects that encapsulate the essence of their assigned city in a personal and interactive form. Through this exhibition, we celebrate the power of imagination and the artistry involved in interpreting complex ideas into physical realities. We hope that you, the viewer, will not only appreciate the aesthetic qualities of each work but also engage with the narratives and emotions they evoke. Join us in this exploration of form, space, and the limitless possibilities of creativity as we journey through the echoes of imagined cities.
