RETRO.HK Gaming Expo 2022: Next Station-HSUHK!

[11 October 2022, Hong Kong] – The RETRO.HK Gaming Expo 2022 will present a series of educational retro game exhibition and free play experiences on 27 October – 29 October 2022 at the Auditorium (D201) of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK). Co-organised by the RETRO.HK, Department of Art and Design and Department of Social Science of the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, RETRO.HK Gaming Expo 2022 will be the first Retro Gaming Expo incorporating three educational themes: (1) “The Evolution of Video Games”, (2) “Cityscapes of Asia in Games” and (3) “A Creative Industry Perspective to Award-winning Games: Culture, Media, Design and Creative Market”. RETRO.HK Gaming Expo 2022 will be the 7th Gaming Expo held by RETRO.HK, following the success of previous years. The event is supported by HSUHK Strategic Development Grant 2022/23 ‘From Retro to the Metaverse Games: Imagining Asia and Creative Industries from the Past, the Present, to the Future ‘.

 

The three-day RETRO.HK Gaming expo will feature a one-day event on 29 October (Saturday) exclusively open to the public, following the two-day internal events on 27-28 (Thursday to Friday) for teachers and students at HSUHK. Serving as a private University with academic programmes promoting the ‘Liberal + Professional’ educational model, the event will serve as a knowledge exchange platform for the video game industry professionals, HSUHK teachers and students as well as the general public to exchange and reflect on the historical, cultural and social significance of gaming developments in Hong Kong and Asian context from the perspectives of creative industries and Asian studies. 

 

In addition to the guided tours provided to HSUHK community, the evolution of video game will be introduced for the public to learn about the history of the game heritage.  Free play arcade and Retro Cup Game Competition will be open for all, with more than 40 sets of classic games and consoles exhibited. Games include the classic Street Fighter and Saturn Bomberman. For interested public, please register for the October 29 (Saturday, 12noon – 10pm) open session exclusively free for the public to visit the game exhibition and join the game experience!

About RETRO.HK

RETRO.HK is a non-profit association formed by a team of volunteers who are driven to preserve, curate, and showcase video game hardware and software for the purpose of public education. Since 2015, they have been hosting the annual RETRO.HK Gaming Expo. As Hong Kong’s first and only event dedicated to the history of video games, it celebrates over 40 years of digital entertainment in a variety of ways, ranging from a console hardware museum, a huge free play zone with over 100 CRT TVs and systems for visitors to experience, and “RETROCUP” – a retro game e-sport tournaments featuring only classic titles.

About the Department of Art and Design, HSUHK

The Department of Art and Design (AAD) offers two undergraduate programmes (BA in Cultural and Creative Industries and BA in Art and Design) with emphasis on both the management and business aspects as well as the creative and entrepreneurial cores of education and training in the cultural and creative industries and sectors. Graduates will contribute as art and design creators or project managers, cultural event and venue managers, product and service designers, business development executives, or entrepreneurs in the digital culture, technology, and economy.

 

About the Department of Social Science, HSUHK

The Department of Social Science (SSC) offers three undergraduate programmes (BA in Asian Studies, BA in Psychology and BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics).
