Dr Christine Hiu Ying Choy obtained her PhD degree from the School of Journalism and Communication, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research focuses on arts, cultural inclusion and well-being, new media and creative industries, and social minorities and crisis management. Christine is the Principal Investigator of two on-going RGC grant projects: (2022-2024) “Art at home: The impact of new media and online cultural production on home-based arts engagement” (HK$755,126) [UGC/FDS/H09/21] and (2024-2025) “Arts for well-being: The impact of arts engagement on parental stress and mental well-being” (HK$518,966) [UGC/FDS14/H08/23]. 


Christine has obtained Top Paper Awards presented by the leading academic conference including the annual conferences of the International Communication Association (ICA). She is the recipient of the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Award 2020/21. Her works are published in various SSCI-indexed journals, including Computers in Human Behaviour, Public Relations Review, International Journal of Conflict Management, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Mobile Media and Communication, and Chinese Journal of Communication. 


Christine serves the community with her researcher role as the Impact Measurement Partner to evaluate the effectiveness of socially engaged art projects led by non-profit organizations, including the Make a Difference Institute (MaD)’s Jockey Club Peoples’ Art Connective (2021-2023) funded by The Jockey Club Charities Trust and Ceramics for Care (2023-2025) funded by The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Hong Kong. She also contributes news commentary articles on cultural affairs and policies related to the creative industries.


Prior to her doctoral studies, Christine obtained a Master of Social Science in Corporate Communication and a Bachelor of Arts in Translation at CUHK. Christine has industry experiences serving as an in-house marketing communication officer at multinational corporations. She was a freelance movie subtitle translator who translated a number of movies from English to Traditional Chinese for the Hong Kong market: Yves Saint Laurent, Vampire Academy, The Last Exorcism 2, Sin City 2, Malavita, Machete Kills, Look of Love, Haunting 2, Girls in Sunny Place, Fury, Friend the Great Legacy, Dark Place, and 3 Days to Kill.
